Counselors & Volunteers
With an average of 50-60 campers each year, DASA requires a large number of super-dedicated counselors to adequately meet the needs of each and every individual over the whole week of camp.
DASA recruits students and other individuals from various fields and backgrounds to assist at Camp WeCanDu. Although camp serves as a great opportunity for those headed into therapy and related professions to put their education and knowledge to work in a unique, real-world setting, it offers each and every counselor a life-changing experience – no matter their background.
- Those 18 and older (or high school graduates) are welcome to apply to be a counselor.
- In order to be a counselor, you must be vaccinated, fill out a staff application and attend an interview.
- Counselors who need physical assistance will be required to provide their own assistance and transportation.

“…our son has never been away from home before and has extreme anxiety. He gained so much confidence and independence during the week that still shows on a daily basis.”
“So many times in the real world, our daughter gets left out or has to sit on the sidelines and watch other kids participate. Not with Camp WeCanDu! More importantly, she made friends and had fun and was able to be a kid without limits. As hard as it was to leave her for the week I’m so thankful I did – it still brings tears to my eyes just looking at the pictures and thinking my child was doing all of the things any other kid can do. I don’t think saying thank you is enough to express how I feel.”
“There are too many amazing moments to share. My son rode a horse!! He went SCUBA diving, are you kidding? I’ve never done that! Luke [the counselor] was just a Godsend. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!”
About Our Staff
“These counselors are rare and I trust them more than I do most Para’s at their school and counselors at other camps. I have no concerns with supervision because after 2 perfect years, they have earned my trust and I have so much love and respect for all of them!”
“Absolutely [the nursing staff attended to our needs in a professional manner]! I have never felt more confident in leaving medicines with any other nursing staff ([e.g.] variety, school).”
